CHARLIE PUTH | Voicenotes
Artist Partner/Atlantic (2018)
Selected by Mark J. Marraccini
I literally have no idea how Charlie Puth’s 2018 sophomore studio LP Voicenotes got on my radar, but once I gave it a spin, I was obsessed. It’s one of those albums I tell everyone to check out. Puth’s sexy blue-eyed soul declarations of love and lust (“Somebody Told Me”, “Boy”), an unpredictably beautiful duet with legendary singer-songwriter James Taylor (“Change”), and his avoidance of incorporating chart-topping musical trends (“Patient”), made it one of the few contemporary pop releases worthy of owning on vinyl. That’s why I’ve got a copy tucked away in my record collection. I’ll listen to Voicenotes for years to come.
