NEW MUSIC WE LOVE: Leigh Nash’s “God Gave Me Horses”

April 20, 2019 Albumism Staff

Artist: Leigh Nash
Song: “God Gave Me Horses”
Album: TBD

Last night, we had the great pleasure of experiencing not one, but two dynamic performances at City Winery in Manhattan. And while Albumism favorites Over the Rhine may have been the main attraction for the audience assembled there, the lovely Leigh Nash charmed and impressed with an all-too-short set comprised of her more familiar fare and a few new compositions.

Released just yesterday and inspired by her encounter with an incarcerated man who had secured newfound purpose in caring for horses, the Sixpence None the Richer vocalist’s poignant new single “God Gave Me Horses” was arguably the supreme standout among the highlight-rich performance. It also marks the first offering in a forthcoming series of new songs that Nash intends to release periodically over the next few months, as she continues to make a convincing case that she’s one of the most criminally underappreciated songwriters working today.

“God Gave Me Horses” is accompanied by a radiant reworking of “Kiss Me,” Sixpence None the Richer’s most universally familiar tune, which first captivated listeners 20 years ago. Enjoy both songs below and stay tuned for much more from the magnificent Ms. Nash.
