WORLD PREMIERE: Tanika Charles Unveils “Remember to Remember” From Forthcoming Album 'The Gumption'

Artist: Tanika Charles
Song: “Remember to Remember”
Album: The Gumption (Due in stores May 10th)

Almost exactly two years ago, in April 2017, Canadian soul singer Tanika Charles dropped her debut album Soul Run straight into the hearts of Albumism’s staff and many other discerning music lovers across the globe. Its mix of classic soul songwriting with a modern twist of production and witty, wise lyrics, announced a new name to soul aficionados the world over—a name worth remembering.

Two years later, ahead of the planned May 10th release of her sophomore album The Gumption, comes another soul-drenched track filled with characteristic vim and vigor: “Remember to Remember.” As a taster for what lies ahead, it slips into a Motown-esque groove that bristles with energy and highlights Charles’ delightful voice.

Its best left to Charles herself though, to give the real lowdown on the track. “This one is a bit of an homage to The Supremes,” Charles reveals. “It’s about ignoring distractions and focusing on what you already have. I had to do a little rap on the bridge, which was jokes, but also sounded great in the end. Can you imagine if Diana Ross was rapping back then? I bet she’d have bars!”

Who’d argue with that appraisal? Nobody messes with The Boss after all.

We’re thrilled to present the exclusive world premiere of “Remember to Remember” today and encourage you to check back soon for more of our upcoming coverage of the supremely talented Ms. Charles.
