NEW MUSIC WE LOVE: Kacey Musgraves’ “justified"

All year long, Kacey Musgraves’ loyal legion of diehards have been clamoring—and effusively so, in many cases—for new music from the beloved singer-songwriter. And while she has coyly teased her forthcoming, highly anticipated follow-up to 2018’s widely acclaimed Golden Hour over the past few months via her social feeds, it is only now, within the past few days, that the promotional machine has suddenly reached full-on propulsion mode.

Just a mere four days ago, Musgraves unveiled the lead single and title track from star-crossed, and in the wee hours of this morning (ET), she has shared the project’s confessional second track “justified,” a post-breakup rumination replete with an accompanying music video.

Slated to arrive September 10th, the 15-track star-crossed is described by an official press release as “a modern-day tragedy in three acts” that “tells an extremely personal journey of heartache and healing,” an allusion to the recent dissolution of Musgraves’ marriage to fellow singer-songwriter Ruston Kelly.

The album arrives with an accompanying 50-minute short film slated to premiere via Paramount+ on September 10th. Enjoy the official video for “justified” and the film trailer below.
