SOPHIE ELLIS-BEXTOR | Wanderlust
EBGB’s (2014) | Buy
Selected by Quentin Harrison

Having conquered the dance-pop genre, English vocalist and songwriter Sophie Ellis-Bextor could’ve churned out more records stacked back to front with further floorfillers. Instead, she turned over the board and began a new game with Wanderlust, her fifth album. Comprised of rumbling chamber pop, lush folk excursions and other richly cinematic soundscapes, Ellis-Bextor crossed a musical rubicon with Wanderlust, where the broader pop experimentation which had always lurked under the surface of her anterior work was now fully realized and on display.
