Following her success as an actress and her widely beloved role as Charlene on the Australian soap opera Neighbours, Kylie Minogue formally embarked upon her music career with the July 1988 release of her debut album Kylie. The first of four consecutive albums Minogue crafted with UK production duo Stock Aitken Waterman, her inaugural affair emerged one year after the unveiling of her debut single—a cover of the Gerry Goffin and Carole King penned “The Loco-Motion” first performed by Little Eva in 1962. On the strength of six official singles including the chart-topping smash hit “I Should Be So Lucky,” Kylie peaked at #1 on the UK and New Zealand album charts along with multiple top 10 chart rankings across Europe.
In conjunction with its 35th anniversary earlier this year and the momentum behind Minogue’s most recent LP Tension (2023), Kylie has been remastered via a vibrant neon pink vinyl pressing replete with a gatefold sleeve. While the limited-edition re-release is a must-have for Minogue’s ever-growing legion of loyal devotees, it also represents a great opportunity for new listeners to discover the genesis—and genius—of the Princess of Pop’s distinctive and dynamic musical identity, which has spawned fifteen additional studio albums in the three-and-a-half decades since Kylie’s arrival.
“Love and thanks to everyone who has loved this album for 35 years,” Minogue enthuses in an official statement. “Let’s enjoy the magic all over again!”
