Nearly five years since the release of her collaboration-rich album Threads (2019), Sheryl Crow has unveiled her twelfth studio album Evolution. Produced by Mike Elizondo (Fiona Apple, Gary Clark Jr., Rilo Kiley), the LP is preceded by four official singles in the form of “Alarm Clock,” “Evolution,” “Do It Again,” and “Digging In The Dirt” featuring Peter Gabriel.

“At my age, I can write anything I want to write because it is most likely not going to be heard,” Crow tells The Independent. “I mean, that sounds defeatist! But there is liberation in it. You think less about who you offend. I’m not vying for spots on the radio. Being able to write about the things I see is a relief.”

“This music and these lyrics came from sitting in the quiet and writing from a deep soul place,” she adds in an official statement. “I said I’d never make another record—thought there was no point to it, but this music comes from my soul. I hope whoever hears this record can feel that.”
