NEW MUSIC WE LOVE: The Brand New Heavies’ Reimagining of Kendrick Lamar's “These Walls” Featuring N’Dea Davenport

July 10, 2019 Albumism Staff

UK soul-funk legends The Brand New Heavies? Check. Sublime soulstress N’Dea Davenport? Check. Reinterpretation of a staple Kendrick Lamar tune? Check. Production courtesy of the one-and-only Mark Ronson? Check.

Well, if these aren’t the essential ingredients of a killer song, then we don’t know what is.

As we first reported a few months ago, the Heavies have returned to slay our ears once again with their forthcoming album TBNH on the near horizon. Due to arrive September 6th via Acid Jazz records, the group’s eleventh studio affair features the dynamic duo of Simon Bartholomew and Andrew Levy partnering with an impressive crew of guest vocalists including the aforementioned Ms. Davenport, Siedah Garrett, Beverley Knight, Honey LaRochelle, Laville, Angela Ricci, and Angie Stone.

Following the reveal of lead single “Getaway” a few months ago, the band have returned with their intriguing, Ronson-blessed reimagining of Lamar’s “These Walls,” the fifth and final single from his GRAMMY-winning 2015 masterpiece To Pimp A Butterfly. Listen to it below and be sure to make room on your shelves for TBNH when it surfaces in early September.
