NEW MUSIC WE LOVE: Madonna x Sickick's "Frozen" (Fireboy DML Remix)

Madonna’s universally acclaimed seventh studio album Ray of Light (1998) was released in the US 24 years ago on March 3, 1998 and today she has unveiled an intriguing adaptation of the LP’s lead single “Frozen.” Clocking in at a brief run time just north of two minutes, the remix is driven by the dark, dense production courtesy of Sickick—who originally unveiled his reworking of the song via TikTok in March 2020— and vocal contributions supplied by the ascendant Nigerian singer-songwriter Fireboy DML. The reimagined track succeeds in preserving the emotive power of the original composition while recontextualizing it within the producer’s nuanced soundscape and Madonna’s manipulated vocals.
