Belle and Sebastian have announced that their tenth studio album A Bit of Previous is set to arrive May 6th courtesy of Matador Records. Preceded by the beautifully buoyant lead single “Unnecessary Drama” and accompanied by four different versions of cover artwork, A Bit of Previous is the follow-up to 2019’s Days of the Bagnold Summer soundtrack and marks the the Scottish band’s first proper studio LP since 2015’s Girls in Peacetime Want to Dance.
“We did it together, us and the city,” frontman Stuart Murdoch says of the band’s hometown of Glasgow, where they recorded the album after plans to travel to Los Angeles were scrapped at the onset of the pandemic. “This record was the first ‘full’ LP recording for B&S in Glasgow since Fold Your Hands Child, You Walk Like a Peasant, 1999. We clocked in every morning, we played our songs, we wrote together, we tried new things, we took the proverbial lump of clay, and we threw it every day.”
A few weeks after A Bit of Previous makes landfall, the group will embark upon a two-month U.S. tour that kicks off May 24th in Asheville, NC and includes notable performances at Nashville’s famed Ryman Auditorium, New York City’s Central Park SummerStage and back-to-back dates at Berkeley, CA and L.A.’s Greek Theatres. Later in the year in November, the band will launch a UK tour followed by a series of dates across the EU in January.
