NEW MUSIC WE LOVE: Mac DeMarco’s “Nobody”

Artist: Mac DeMarco
Song: “Nobody”
Album: Here Comes The Cowboy (Due in stores May 10th)

After many EPs, mini LPs, and demos, Mac DeMarco’s fourth full-length is nearly upon us. Here Comes The Cowboy is out May 10th on DeMarco’s new label, Mac’s Record Label. The first single is “Nobody,” accompanied by a video that finds DeMarco in full lizard makeup and smoking a cigar while singing ever so delicately. Always the king of subtlety, he concludes the video with a back-and-forth about ordering a pizza.

If you’ve forgotten what Mac does best, let “Nobody” act as a reminder. The track is charming with a chorus that can take on any meaning any hour: “There’s no turning back / To nobody / There’s no second chance / No third degree.” His skillful guitar style of jazzy noodle is filled in with muffled horns and a bass doing most of the melodic work.

Just in time for the album’s release, DeMarco will be heading out on a North American tour that kicks off April 10th in Los Angeles. Watch and listen below.
