NEW MUSIC WE LOVE: Hiatus Kaiyote’s “Everything's Beautiful”

January 26, 2024 Patrick Corcoran

Just over two-and-a-half years since the release of their third album Mood Valiant (2021), Australian band Hiatus Kaiyote return with their new single “Everything’s Beautiful.” Their three studio albums to date have offered up a unique mix of funk and soul with jazzy overtones and this new song occupies that same sweet spot.

Opening with the sublimely funky sound of a synthesizer that wouldn’t sound out of place on a Stevie Wonder or Sly Stone record and followed by the always remarkable vocals of Nai Palm, the single is just short of three minutes in duration and it’s as sinuous and irresistible as any of their previous songs. As a first taste of an as-yet-unknown project, it whets the appetite in the most delicious, refreshing way.

Conceived by lead singer Nai Palm as a call to recognize the everyday beauty of the small things around us, it gives the band a chance to showcase their winning combination of lead-heavy bottom end and zephyr light melodies—it’s never let them down in the past and it surely hasn’t this time around. Whenever more material emerges, we’ll be ready to sample another divine slice of Antipodean wonder.
