NEW MUSIC WE LOVE: Gemma Hayes’ “Feed The Flames”

Gemma Hayes has unveiled the hauntingly sublime “Feed The Flames” as the second single from her forthcoming sixth studio album, her first LP since 2014’s Bones + Longing. The track follows this past summer’s release of the project’s lead single “High & Low,” which featured in Albumism’s playlist of 2023’s 100 Essential Songs.

“I originally began writing the song after watching Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf with Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton,” Hayes says of “Feed The Flames” in an official statement. “Knowing a bit about their relationship off screen I was really taken by the depth of their connection, it was a living, breathing fire. What I got from delving into their relationship is that you can love something or someone so much only for your human fallibility to come along and destroy it.”

Additional details about the album will be revealed soon and in the meantime, Hayes has announced a spring tour in her native Ireland that commences April 12th at Kilkenny’s Watergate Theatre and concludes May 19th at Co.Louth’s Spirit Store. Hayes is also slated to perform at the Night and Day Festival at Lough Key Forest Park on June 29th.
