NEW MUSIC WE LOVE: Florence + The Machine’s “Sky Full Of Song”

April 14, 2018 Albumism Staff

Artist: Florence + The Machine
Song: “Sky Full Of Song”
Album: High As Hope (release date TBD)
Download: Amazon | iTunes
Upcoming Tour: Dates

Nearly three years since Florence + The Machine released their terrific third studio album How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful in the spring of 2015, the Florence Welch led band have returned with their stirring new single and AG Rojas directed video for “Sky Full Of Song.” Presumably slated to appear on the group’s forthcoming album with the working title High As Hope, the emotionally raw and reflective track finds Welch’s powerful vocals in signature form.

“This was a song that just fell out of the sky fully formed,” Welch confides in an official statement. “Sometimes when you are performing you get so high, it’s hard to know how to come down. There is this feeling of being cracked open, rushing endlessly outwards and upwards, and wanting somebody to hold you still, bring you back to yourself. It’s an incredible, celestial, but somehow lonely feeling.”

“Sky Full Of Song” will also be available as a Record Store Day exclusive 7” vinyl single on April 21st, replete with a special recording of “New York Poem (for Polly)” which appears in Useless Magic, Welch’s first published book of lyrics and poetry due to arrive July 5th.
