NEW MUSIC WE LOVE: Janelle Monáe’s “PYNK” Featuring Grimes

April 11, 2018 Patrick Corcoran

Artist: Janelle Monáe featuring Grimes
Song: “PYNK”
Album: Dirty Computer (due in stores April 27th)
Pre-Order: Amazon | iTunes

Since Janelle Monáe dropped two songs and a release date for her new album Dirty Computer, we here at Albumism headquarters have been waiting with baited breath for April 27th when the aforementioned album drops into our eager hands.

Hot on the heels of “Django Jane” and “Make Me Feel” comes a third song entitled “PYNK” and another striking video to accompany it. Continuing her winning formula of featuring quirkily interesting artists, Canadian singer/songwriter Grimes jumps on board for what Monáe herself calls “a brash celebration of creation, self-love, sexuality and pussy power.”

The track itself is by turns a charming, whimsical slice of electro-pop and a raucous feel-good summer anthem and it continues the incredible variety that runs through all of Monáe’s work. The video, directed by Emma Westenburg, burns with vibrant color, black girl magic and perfectly choreographed divine derrieres.

We were already excited beyond measure for Dirty Computer but now that “PYNK” has landed, we are fit to burst. Roll on April 27th—it can’t come soon enough.
