Ego Ella May’s quality control shows no sign of dipping and she continues her impressive string of songs with new release “Introvert Hotline.” The London singer-songwriter followed her hugely impressive debut album Honey For Wounds from 2020 with the equally adept EP FIELDNOTES last year, and it seems that 2022 will see the release of FIELDNOTES PT II, from which this languidly delightful track is taken.
Produced by Lvther and written during their first meeting, it addresses an introvert’s worst nightmare—the abject fear of hearing the phone ring without warning. May sets out her boundaries (text before calling, of course) to the accompaniment of a bubbling bassline and some delicious cooing backing vocals—it is another winner for the up-and-coming star.
FIELDNOTES found her set against a more electronic musical palette, but here she reverts to a more organic sounding one, but loses nothing in switching between the approaches. Her vocals are as beguiling as ever and the all-encompassing sublime cocoon she weaves with her songwriting and voice prevail no matter what. FIELDNOTES PT II cannot come soon enough.
