Released in 2019, Dave’s debut album PSYCHODRAMA was a tour de force of British rap in all its glorious musicality. Wrapped in swathes of grime, hip-hop and led at key points by memorable, emotive piano lines, it centered around a fractured psyche crushed by racism and urban life receiving support in the form of therapy. It was my favorite album of that year and it won immense critical acclaim, including winning the prestigious Mercury Prize here in the UK.
Beyond the plaudits for the album, his BRIT Awards performance of his number one single “Black” just before the world entered lockdown was a blistering attack on the inept, corrupt indifference of the racist UK government and gave a public voice to the those who didn’t have one.
With little fanfare, Dave announced this week that his second album entitled We’re All Alone In This Together would be released two weeks from now, on July 23rd. Alongside the news came the reveal of Dave on the cover of GQ magazine and then this morning’s release of the project’s first single “Clash.” Featuring UK superstar Stormzy and originally teased on Twitter last month, it sees the duo trade bars over a typically ferocious bass line and Dave’s elegant piano lines.
Watch the official video below and join us in hoping the next two weeks pass quickly as we wait for “We’re All Alone In This Together.” Additionally, and if you haven’t had the pleasure already, check out Dave’s recently unveiled pair of singles “Titanium” and “Mercury” below.
