NEW MUSIC WE LOVE: Ben Abraham’s “War In Your Arms”

"War In Your Arms" is a mesmeric preview of Indonesian-Australian singer-songwriter Ben Abraham's forthcoming second studio album due in August via Atlantic Records.

Abraham's latest follows the 2019 release of his first two major-label singles, "Satellite" and "Nobody Wants To Hear Songs Anymore,", and "Like A Circle," which dropped last month.

The poignant "War In Your Arms" rises from the embers of great heartbreak. “It’s about that point when the relationship is done and you’re trying so hard to hold onto love, it almost becomes like an act of violence," Abraham explains of the track in a recent press release. "All you’re really doing is hurting yourself and hurting the other person, until you can gather the strength to say, ‘Enough. I’m done.’"

"War In Your Arms" employs the talents of prolific British producer James Flannigan (Dua Lipa, Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness, Carly Rae Jepsen) and fellow Australian singer-songwriter Helen Croome (better known to most as Gossling).

Abraham self-released his critically acclaimed debut album Sirens in 2014, but it found a wider audience when the Indiana-based independent label Secretly Canadian reissued the set in 2016.

Audiences are probably most familiar with Abraham's work as a songwriter, co-penning tracks for Demi Lovato ("Smoke & Mirrors"), The Chicks ("Set Me Free"), and Ben Platt ("Ease My Mind," "Bad Habit," "Temporary Love," "Grow As We Go"). In 2017, Abraham co-wrote Kesha's Grammy Award-winning hit single, "Praying," with the singer, along with composers Ryan Lewis and Andrew Joslyn.
