The talk of R&B at the close of the 00’s was Jasmine Sullivan. Her souring vocals captured the hearts of fans with her 2008 debut and dispelled the myth of a sophomore jinx. The power of her vocals returned to take listeners on more mesmerizing journeys on Love Me Back, specifically with songs like “Redemption” and the Salaam Remi produced “10 Seconds.” Undoubtedly the head of her class for this generation’s soul-women, she has impressively honed her talent as a highly sought songwriter in recent years. With her vocal range and writing portfolio, Ms. Sullivan is definitely one of the artists to look forward to heading into the 2020s.
