The Lost Boys
Atlantic (1987)
Selected by Justin Chadwick
Circa 1987, on-screen swagger was defined by the four gentlemen who captured top billing in The Lost Boys: Jason Patric, Kiefer Sutherland, Corey Haim and Corey Feldman. Not to mention the enigmatic cool of Jami Gertz, whose performance as vampire mistress numero uno Star amplified her already proven crush-worthy status.
While entries by heavyweights Roger Daltrey, Echo & The Bunnymen and INXS lend the affair credibility and star power, it’s the campier power pop-rock that propels the soundtrack. Instantly conjuring the corresponding scenes from the film, Tim Cappello’s “I Still Believe” (boardwalk concert with profusely sweaty, muscle-bulging singer-saxophonist), Lou Gramm’s “Lost In The Shadows” (bravado-driven motorcycle race through the dense Santa Carla fog), and Gerard McMann’s “Cry Little Sister” (obligatory love scene in vampire cave), are all guilty pleasures, but also the soundtrack’s standout moments.
