Clueless
Capitol (1995)
Selected by Andy Healy
Like a mismatched outfit out of Cher’s closet (the protagonist of the movie, not the singer), the genre-clashing soundtrack for Clueless somehow works. All the cool kid hits of 1995 are here from The Muffs, to Counting Crows, to Cracker, to Luscious Jackson. The soundtrack has a jubilance to it, even when it plays with “cry baby” tunes from Radiohead or World Party.
Iconic movie moments are present in Coolio’s “Rollin’ With The Homies” and The Mighty Mighty Bosstones’ “Where’d You Go?” that give you flashback moments with a smile. Add to the fun and carefree feel of Jill Sobule’s “Supermodel” and the perfection that is “Alright” by Supergrass and you’ve got a batch of songs that will make you want to “totally pause” and take a listen.
