100 Greatest Soundtracks of All Time: 'Menace II Society' (1993)

May 8, 2020 Jesse Ducker

Menace II Society
Jive (1993)
Selected by Jesse Ducker

The Hughes Brothers’ Menace II Society presents a pretty grim view of life in inner city Los Angeles, and much of its accompanying soundtrack shares this borderline nihilism. The soundtrack draws together artists from around the country, and works best when the music reflects the bleak ethos of the film. Both on celluloid and a record, violence occurs without warning, drugs are omnipresent, and young Black men are an endangered species.
