Although nearly seven years have passed since Sophie Ellis-Bextor released her sixth studio album Familia in September 2016, the dynamic singer-songwriter-performer has remained highly visible due to her multitude of projects.
Notable among these endeavors are her career-spanning collection The Song Diaries (2019) featuring orchestral versions of her beloved hit singles, her endearingly cathartic ‘Kitchen Disco’ performance series that lifted weary spirits during pandemic-driven lockdown, and her subsequent compilations Songs From the Kitchen Disco (2020) and Kitchen Disco – Live at the London Palladium (2022). Oh, and she also found the time to host the podcast Spinning Plates with Sophie Ellis-Bextor and publish her autobiography Spinning Plates: Music, Men, Motherhood and Me (2022).
Much to her loyal devotees’ delight, the London born-and-bred pop star has unveiled her seventh studio LP HANA, produced by her close confidante Ed Harcourt and comprised of 12 tracks including singles “Breaking the Circle,” “Everything Is Sweet,” “Lost in the Sunshine” and “Hearing in Colour.” Ellis-Bextor will perform her new songs across a series of UK and European festival dates this spring and summer, followed by a UK tour slated for later this year in November and December.
“HANA is an album inspired by a 2020 trip to japan, before the world tilted,” Ellis-Bextor explains via Twitter. “It’s name means blossom. There are themes of optimism, new starts, adventures and reflections.”
