Shelby Lynne
Consequences of the Crown
Monument
Released 08/16/24
Shelby Lynne has unveiled her seventeenth studio album Consequences of the Crown, the follow-up to 2021’s The Servant. After more than a quarter-century spent away from Nashville where she recorded her first five studio albums before releasing her critical and commercial breakthrough I Am Shelby Lynne (1999), Lynne returned to Music City to craft Consequences of the Crown.
“I’d come back here to be near Sissy,” Lynne explains to The New York Times, referring to her younger sister and fellow acclaimed singer-songwriter Allison Moorer. “I was always kind of making records in California, but I thought that part of my life was over. I just wanted to write some songs, maybe get a publishing deal, which I never had.”
Written and recorded with an all-female crew of collaborators that includes Ashley Monroe, Little Big Town’s Karen Fairchild and the producer-engineer Gena Johnson, Lynne’s new album finds her mining the depths of heartache and loss through spoken word soliloquies and her ever-versatile vocals.
“I am going where it feels right to take a step,” Lynne reflects in an official statement. “Breathing. Feeling the power of this music I lived for a time, another chapter in my life. I am grateful to be alive. I am grateful to you for listening to my life. This is the moment. We all wear a crown of consequences.”
Lynne is set to perform at the storied Grand Ole Opry on August 20th in support of Little Big Town. On September 18th, the Americana Music Association will deservedly recognize her as a 2024 Lifetime Achievement Honoree at its Americana Honors & Awards ceremony at Nashville’s famed Ryman Auditorium, where she’ll also perform on September 26th. In October, she’ll grace the stage at London’s O2 Arena with country stalwart Chris Stapleton
