Interpol have unveiled their eighth studio album This Mirror Weighs A Ton, which follows their 2022 LP The Other Side of Make-Believe. Produced by Andrew Wyatt, the band’s new album is preceded by the official singles “This Mirror Weighs A Ton”/“See Out Loud” and “Iron City.”
“It was great to be back in New York City recording a record with our friend Andrew Wyatt, and I think we just came into this album with a lot of positivity and some new input,” the band’s Paul Banks explains during a recent Billboard Español interview. “We had a new bass player [Brad Truax], we had Andrew as the producer, and I think we really just got a new chemistry and created some exciting music.”
“I think there’s a lot of themes on this record about reflection and being honest with one’s self,” Banks continues. “And then I think there’s sort of the self-reflection that a band can go through, or the self-reflection that a nation can go through, and sort of evaluating who are we and, again, similarly, there can be a distorted reality via manipulative narratives, or there can be the honest look.”
To support the album’s arrival, the group is currently progressing through their global tour, with their next performance set for September 26th in Brooklyn and the final date slated for December 5th in London.
