Dev Hynes has delivered Essex Honey, his fifth studio album under his pseudonym Blood Orange and his first LP commissioned by RCA Records. Preceded by the official singles “The Field,” “Somewhere In Between,” “Mind Loaded” and “Countryside,” Essex Honey features guest contributions by Daniel Caesar, Lorde, Mustafa The Poet, Caroline Polacheck, Zadie Smith, and Brendan Yates (of Turnstile), among other collaborators.

“As much as it explores family and Essex and England and grief, it's also looking at a constant of all of this, which is music,” Hynes explains to NPR, alluding to his mother’s passing in 2023. “It's a lot of questions. It's a lot of darkness. It's a lot of—it's the realities of, I guess, trauma and death and grief, the realities of depression. You know, the biggest shock that I think happens to people when something very bad happens is the realization that the world is still moving.”
