NEW MUSIC WE LOVE: Vampire Weekend’s “Sunflower”

March 17, 2019 Albumism Staff

Artist: Vampire Weekend
Song: “Sunflower”
Album: Father of the Bride (Due in stores May 3rd)

In our current era when listeners’ demand for instant gratification is increasingly accommodated by the steady supply of new music, with artists churning out new tunes more easily and expediently than ever before, it’s reassuring to know that Vampire Weekend still take their sweet ol’ time. Slated to arrive May 3rd, the band’s fourth studio album Father of the Bride is their first long player since 2013’s chart-topping Modern Vampires of the City. And if the project’s first two double singles—“Harmony Hall”/”2021” and “Sunflower”/”Big Blue” are any indication, the six-year gestation period was extended time well spent.

Directed by Jonah Hill, the recently unveiled video for the instant-earworm “Sunflower” features the song’s guest collaborator Steve Lacy (of The Internet) and special cameos by Brooklyn-bred New York City royalty Fab 5 Freddy and Jerry Seinfeld. Watch it and the preceding video for “Harmony Hall” below, then be sure to take a listen to “2021” and “Big Blue” while you’re at it.
