Nearly four years removed from the release of I Am Easy To Find (2019), The National have announced that their ninth studio album First Two Pages of Frankenstein will make landfall on April 28th courtesy of the famed 4AD label. The eleven-track LP features collaborations with Phoebe Bridgers, Sufjan Stevens and Taylor Swift, with an accompanying tour set to kick off May 20th in Chicago.
Co-written by lead vocalist Matt Berninger’s wife Carin Besser, lead single “Tropic Morning News” takes inspiration from the increasingly common practice of doomscrolling. “The idea of referring to the darkness of the news in such a light way unlocked something in me,” Berninger explains in an official statement. “It became a song about having a hard time expressing yourself, and trying to connect with someone when the noise of the world is drowning out any potential for conversation.”
