Comprised of legendary Incognito main man Jean-Paul “Bluey” Maunick and all-around musical maestro Gilles Peterson, UK super-group STR4TA’s much-anticipated, forthcoming album Aspects arrives one week from today on March 26th, courtesy of Brownswood Recordings. It’s preceded by three singles, including the just-unveiled “Vision 9,” which sees them capturing the nascent days of their musical journeys through the UK’s vibrant jazz funk scene.
The jazz funk scene of the late 1970s birthed countless strands of the fabric of British music but is often overlooked in importance and influence—victims of a fickle, misled public and restrictive gatekeepers unwilling to give Black artists and their work a fair shot.
The follow-up to the previously released tracks “Aspects” and “Rhythm In Your Mind,” “Vision 9” finds STR4TA orchestrating a heavenly slice of bliss that captures those heady, carefree days of a groove, the dance floor and the unconfined joy of youth. Subtle flourishes of flute nestle alongside the infectious bass line and delicious rhythm guitar to make the dourest day feel like a tropical, sun-drenched gift.
If the singles released from Aspects thus far are anything to go by, then the long-time friends and collaborators have a gem on their hands.
