NEW MUSIC WE LOVE: Shura’s “obsession” Featuring Rosie Lowe

“forevher may be an album about love, but it is also an album that has inadvertently broken barriers and given yet another voice to a community that all too often has very little voice where love is concerned,” our Albumism colleague Matthew Hocter opined in his 5-star review of Shura’s second studio album. “And yet, Shura’s inclusive songs somehow manage to resonate with everyone, a feat very few songwriters have been able to achieve.”

Indeed, forevher was one of the most revelatory albums to emerge in 2019 and now this triumphant set of songs is due to resurface in deluxe edition form next month. Due in stores March 19th across multiple digital and physical formats via Secretly Canadian, the expanded reissue features nine additional songs that were not included on the original album, including “obsession” featuring Shura’s kindred musical spirit, Rosie Lowe.

“‘Obsession’ was one of the songs I wrote whilst I was writing forevher,” Shura explains in an official statement. “I always wanted it to be a duet between two women, but it never came to fruition during the recording process. Then, when I toured forevher in Europe, Rosie Lowe came with us and we’d always spoken about wanting to collaborate on something together and I suddenly remembered this song, which I loved but had somehow never finished. I sent the track across to Ro and when she sent back her rough take I was like, ‘YES. this is it.’”

Watch the official video for “obsession” below and mark your calendars for March 19th.
