NEW MUSIC WE LOVE: Melanie C’s “In And Out Of Love”

High energy rhythms and electronic vibes were all over Melanie C’s recent triptych of singles in the last nine months—“High Heels,” “Who I Am” and “Blame It On Me.” Melanie C used those engaging dance-pop pieces to reposition herself in today’s contemporary music scene on her terms. But, with her most recent single “In And Out Of Love” and its accompanying video, it looks as if those anterior jams were just the tip of the proverbial iceberg.

While the electro element is still active on “In And Out Of Love,” Melanie C injects some organic disco-pop color via the fleshy bass guitar work and the four-on-the-floor muscle heard on the song; the sonic tension between the digital and live instrumentation abounding on the track makes for quite a listen.

As for the lady herself, Melanie C sounds as fiery and passionate as ever. “In And Out Of Love” bodes well for her eighth solo album, the eponymously designated set was just announced today with an October 2nd street date. Given her recent hot streak of singles and her past musical accomplishments, Melanie C’s forthcoming long player promises to be an awesome affair.
