Maren Morris has unveiled “i hope i never fall in love” as the second single from her forthcoming Intermission EP, which is set to surface August 2nd. Preceded by lead single “cut!” featuring Julia Michaels, the EP is the follow-up to the singer-songwriter’s 2002 album Humble Quest and 2023 The Bridge EP.

“‘i hope i never fall in love’ is the afterglow of a shitshow,” Morris explains in an official statement, alluding to the demise of her marriage to fellow artist Ryan Hurd, with whom she reached a divorce settlement earlier this year. “It’s a bittersweet heartbreaker because I’m in self-protection mode but still want to feel things. So throwing parties, going home with a stranger, popping champagne, whatever we need to do to process our trauma, it’s not a pretty road to healing. I, of course, do want to fall in love again, but I can’t put my heart through it just yet, so here’s a number about this strange but constructive (and destructive) window of my life.”

Morris will spend much of the summer on the road, with a handful of RSVP Redux tour dates and festival performances on the horizon.
