We are officially three weeks removed from the release of Mandy Moore’s highly anticipated seventh studio effort Silver Landings. In the lead-up to its reveal, Moore has sent out three singles—“When I Wasn’t Watching,” “I’d Rather Lose,” and “Save A Little For Yourself,”—in seemingly rapid succession. It’s a tastefully shrewd tactic to keep the buzz around Silver Landings active considering how vastly different music promotion is handled in today’s fickle marketplace. With that said, the three songs elected to represent her forthcoming record have been critically lauded; each is possessed with a lush, guitar-pop style that’s indicative of what the parent album will hold in its entirety.
However, “Fifteen,” the most recent offering from Moore, is likely the most personal entry out of her current singles batch. On this song, Moore looks back to her pre-fabricated origins with a newfound sense of clarity and wisdom. “It’s been a full circle journey to embrace who I was as a teenager starting off in this industry and forgive my past self for judging her so harshly,” Moore explains in an official statement. “For years, I apologized for the creative output of that time but in the making of this new collection of music, I was able to process so much and have come to have great affection for that young girl, that part of me, because she’s the reason I’m here today.”
“Fifteen,” with its light country acoustic lilt, orchestral touches and evocative vocalizing, is as sonically appealing as the three selections that have preceded it. The track is sure to position Silver Landings as a post-Amanda Leigh (2009) career best for Moore.
