NEW MUSIC WE LOVE: Lalah Hathaway’s “The Energy”

May 7, 2023 Albumism Staff

The mighty Lalah Hathaway has returned with her new single “The Energy,” a wonderful, wistful nod to her Windy City roots. “It’s a song that throws back to my childhood in Chicago, growing up in the summer and all that fun nostalgia,” Hathaway shared during a recent KTLA interview. Featuring producer Juan Ariza and vocalist KOLE, “The Energy” follows Hathaway’s string of recent collaborative efforts with the likes of Robert Glasper, Boney James and Juan Winans.

Nearly six years have passed since Hathaway released her GRAMMY Award nominated album Honestly (2017), so we hope that “The Energy” augurs the forthcoming arrival of a new studio LP.
