The wait is over. Seven-and-a-half years since Kelis dropped her sixth studio album Food (2014), the inimitable songstress has unveiled blessed us with a terrific aural and visual treat in the form of her savory new single “Midnight Snacks” and its accompanying video, presumably an early preview of what we can only hope is a new long player on the horizon.

In the extended intervening period between releasing original music, Kelis has stayed busy with a handful of musical collaborations and a steadfast focus on her culinary endeavors, including publishing her critically lauded cookbook My Life on a Plate: Recipes From Around the World in 2015. “It’s another way to express my creativity and who I am,” Kelis explained to Albumism’s Christopher A. Daniel in 2017. “It’s such a part of who we [African-Americans] are as people culturally. There’s always music and food at every gathering, a date, a wedding, a birthday or whatever, and those are my two favorite things.”

WATCH the official video for “Midnight Snacks” below and stay tuned for details about additional new music from Kelis.
