NEW MUSIC WE LOVE: Kacey Musgraves’ “Rainbow”

February 11, 2019 Albumism Staff

Artist: Kacey Musgraves
Song: “Rainbow”
Album: Golden Hour

Less than 24 hours removed from her golden evening at the 61st Annual GRAMMY Awards, Kacey Musgraves’ loyal legion of fans—old and new—are basking in the glow of her just-released video for “Rainbow,” the fantastic fifth official single lifted from her sublime LP Golden Hour.

“I feel a kinship and a friendship with (the LGBTQ) community,” Musgraves explained last year. “They really opened my eyes up to a lot of different things that I wasn’t aware of growing up in a small town in Texas. I will always be an ally and a strong supporter. ‘Rainbow’ is something that I can dedicate to that community, but also to anyone who has any kind of a weight on their shoulders. It was written as a message to my own self, but anyone who is feeling like they need that is welcome to run with it.”

Last night’s four-trophy winner performed the song during the ceremony en route to a clean sweep in the Best Country Song (“Space Cowboy”), Best Country Solo Performance (“Butterflies”), Best Country Album and Album of the Year categories. Well-deserved honors across the board for this multi-talented singer-songwriter-guitarist, whose star is now firmly in the ascendant as her career evolves in the most exciting of ways.

Enjoy the official video, as well as her GRAMMY performance, below.
