Artist: Juliana Hatfield
Song: “Lost Ship”
Album: Weird (Due in stores January 18th)
More than 30 years since formally arriving on the music scene when she co-founded Blake Babies, Juliana Hatfield’s career remains proof positive that quality songs don’t always come at the expense of quantity. Remarkably, the workhorse, Boston-bred singer-songwriter-instrumentalist has released sixteen solo albums since her auspicious debut LP Hey Babe surfaced back in 1992, and taken as a whole, her distinctive discography reinforces her enduring penchant for coupling clever, confessional lyrics with guitar-steeped melodies.
Less than a year removed from the release of her brilliant reimagining of one of her musical hero’s songcraft in the form of Juliana Hatfield Sings Olivia Newton-John, Hatfield is set to issue her self-produced seventeenth studio affair next month. Due in stores January 18th courtesy of American Laundromat Records, the 11-track Weird finds Hatfield embracing feelings of disorientation and isolation amidst the world that exists beyond her front door.
“I feel weird, I feel like I’m dreaming my life and that I am going to wake up some day,” Hatfield confides in an official statement. “Personally, I feel like a malfunctioning machine. There’s a screw or two loose. I want my guitar playing to reflect that.”
The album is preceded by the previously released lead single “It’s So Weird” and the recently unveiled “Lost Ship,” the Rachel Lichtman directed video for which can be enjoyed in full below.
