Artist: Eddie Vedder
Album: Earthling
Label: Republic/Seattle Surf
Eleven years on since his most recent solo album (2011’s Ukulele Songs), Eddie Vedder has returned with his third studio affair recorded away from the Pearl Jam fold. Produced by Andrew Watt (Dua Lipa, Ozzy Osbourne, Post Malone), Earthling features contributions by a handful of esteemed collaborators, including Vedder’s two teenage daughters, Elton John, Ringo Starr, and Stevie Wonder. Most notably, however, Earthling reminds us that with or without his beloved band, Vedder increasingly warrants inclusion among the rarefied group of America’s greatest songwriters.
“When the songs are coming out, it’s usually because they’re songs that I would like to hear myself,” Vedder recently confided to the New York Times. “It’s like I need a paint color that I’ve never seen, so I mix it myself. Hopefully people trust us to come up with new paint colors that they care about too.”
