NEW MUSIC WE LOVE: Dubstar’s “I Can See You Outside”

A brief interstice of silence ensued after the issuance of One (2018), but Dubstar—Sarah Blackwood and Chris Wilkie—were busy behind the scenes. The British synth-pop pair had already begun mapping out Two—their fifth studio album due out in early 2021—in earnest. Fans curious about what the record would contain were given an answer this past August with “Hygiene Strip,” an evocative slice of electronic pop that addressed our current moment.

The second single from Two, “I Can See You Outside” builds on the existentialist ennui of “Hygiene Strip,” but with a slightly elevated tempo that will surely lend itself to remixing if Dubstar decide to take that route. In all, “I Can See You Outside” has only further heightened the anticipation for this new album which has reunited the duo with venerated writer-producer Stephen Hague. It can be safely assumed that whatever is contained on Two will be a thrilling experience for those with an enduring appetite for intelligent pop music.

UPDATE (3/5/21): Listen to the new Bright Light Bright Light remix of “I Can See You Outside” below.
