Artist: Corey Hart
Song: “Dreaming Time Again”
Album: Dreaming Time Again (Due in stores May 3rd)
Canadian singer-songwriter Corey Hart has released his thirty-ninth single, “Dreaming Time Again,” the title track from his forthcoming five-track EP due May 3. Dreaming Time Again will be Hart’s first set of completely new tracks to see the light of day since his 1998 studio album, Jade.
Unbelievably, it’s been exactly 35 years since Hart made his US debut with the now-ubiquitous anthem “Sunglasses at Night.” The single was originally released in January 1984 and immediately launched him into the top ten on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, while catalyzing a successful career that has stretched across eight studio albums that have sold in excess of 16 million copies internationally.
Enlisting legendary producer Bob Ezrin (Pink Floyd, Lou Reed, Peter Gabriel, Alice Cooper) as a collaborator, “Dreaming Time Again” capitalizes on the folksier sound of a live-from-the-floor studio band, anchored by legendary session drummer and Hart’s long-time friend Kenny Aranoff. Besides his instantly recognizable voice, Hart’s unwavering sincerity is front and center, captured lovingly in the accompanying video that splits scenes between Toronto and Havana. His frequent smile speaks volumes about where he seems to be at personally and artistically, as do the genuinely sweet conversations he trades in Spanish with his son, Rain, at the beginning and end of the clip.
On March 17th, Hart will join music legends Oscar Peterson, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Leonard Cohen—and Ezrin—as an inductee of the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. He’ll also embark on his first national tour in two decades that will stop in sixteen cities across Canada, beginning in St. John’s, Newfoundland on May 31st (his 57th birthday) and concluding in Vancouver on June 25th.
