Canadian singer and actor CARYS’ latest single “When A Girl” arrives alongside her major-label debut EP for Warner Music Canada/Atlantic Records, To Anyone Like Me. The track follows the hit single “Princesses Don’t Cry,” which has garnered over a million streams around the world, and the Top 20 Canadian radio hit “No More.”
After achieving success on the Canadian small screen in roles on the Family Channel drama Backstage and the CBC sitcom Workin’ Moms, she also appeared in the films Long Shot (with Charlize Theron) and Random Acts of Violence.
CARYS’ first music arrived in 2016 with her inaugural single, “Hype.” In 2017, she independently released the EP Songs About Boys.
With its compelling staccato melody underlying CARYS’ rich alto, “When A Girl” is a striking ballad that speaks to the contradictory expectations of women in society.
"As I’ve grown and become more self-aware, it’s been easier to write from a place of strength,” CARYS explained to the Australian blog Cool Accidents earlier this year, “and send myself and anyone who’s listening the message that you are valid to feel upset with your place in the world sometimes, but that should never stop you from being who you are meant to be, and doing the things you are meant to do.”
