The volume of new music pitches that flood our inbox on a daily basis has become, well, unwieldy. We’re talkin’ a few hundred emails arriving each day. And don’t even get us started on the clusterfuck that’s “New Music Friday,” when that figure pretty much doubles in size, with a ton of messages from eager publicists arriving bright and early when the clock strikes midnight.
At best, we have the time to listen to maybe 5% of the new music inquiries that come our way. And within this small portion, it’s rare that something genuinely piques our interest enough to write about it with the finite amount of time in the day we have to work with.
But every so often, a new song or album instantly restores our faith in the pure joy of musical discovery and reminds us why we love using our platform to spread this joy far and wide. The latest case in point? Carli Brill’s “Kaleidoscope.”
The follow-up to the Nashville-based singer-songwriter’s recently released singles “Hey Little Girl” and “Concrete Jungle,” the Bossa Nova imbued “Kaleidoscope” unfolds as an enthralling showcase for her dulcet vocal tones and eloquent, evocative lyricism. Possessed of a wistful, throwback grandeur and unequivocal grace in its execution, “Kaleidoscope” is a daydream-inducing gem that augurs wonderful sounds to come on her forthcoming full-length album.
“The kaleidoscope represents how we as humans are continually changing, moving, morphing yet always possess that essential piece to who we are—even if it's yet to be discovered," Brill reflects in an official statement.
If there’s any justice to be found in this crazy world, the depth and dynamism of Brill’s artistry will be discovered by the music-loving masses soon enough. Listen to—and fall in love with —“Kaleidoscope,” “Concrete Jungle” and “Hey Little Girl” below.
