Artist: André 3000
Songs: “Me&My (To Bury Your Parents)” & “Look Ma No Hands”
The enigmatic OutKast co-founder André Benjamin has resurfaced with his first new music in years just in time for today’s Mother’s Day festivities, releasing not one, but two tracks that pay homage to both of his late parents. “Me&My (To Bury Your Parents)” features André 3000 on the bass clarinet, piano courtesy of Kevin Kendrick, and the heartfelt lyrics:
“Me and my mother drivin' to the grocery store / Me ridin' shotgun with my window rolled down / She smokes cigarettes and gets what she gets by / Hustlin' harder rollers and a nightgown / Me and my father driving to the football game / Me ridin' shotgun my window rolled down / He sipped cognac and kept us all laughin' / I was much happier when he was around / Zen he was around, around.”
The song is complemented by “Look Ma No Hands,” a sprawling 17-minute instrumental bolstered by James Blake on piano.
Here’s to hoping that these two wonderful surprises are simply the taste of much more new music to come from Mr. Benjamin.
