If you loved Roc Marciano’s 2010 debut Marcberg, listening to Reloaded for the first few times was no doubt a jarring experience. Where the former was a hard-banging throwback to Cuban Linx-style mid ‘90s east coast criminology, the latter was a pimp’s whisper of a record, with calm streams of un-conscience calculatingly delivered over esoteric, often drumless loops. Despite their stark differences, the common thread between all of Marciano’s albums is his unwillingness to compromise his vision or make his insular sound or subject matter palatable for the masses. Aging like a fine pomegranate wine, Reloaded has gone on to birth a nation of a million subterranean rappers.
