To celebrate the forthcoming 30th anniversary of The Breeders’ Last Splash (1993), 4AD has reissued the band’s second studio album in remastered form across black and clear double-LP vinyl pressings, as well as a special CD edition. An exclusive, one-sided etched 12” is included with the vinyl packages, featuring the previously unreleased songs “Divine Mascis” (a modified version of “Divine Hammer” featuring Dinosaur Jr.’s J Mascis) and “Go Man Go” (co-written by Kim Deal and her Pixies bandmate Black Francis).

“Kim Deal understands the pleasure of music, how satisfying a chugging guitar riff or potent basslines can be to the aural palette,” Albumism’s Liz Itkowsky writes in her retrospective tribute. “Last Splash was a surprising, but not undeserved, success. A stylish music video for an attention-grabbing single (directed by Kim Gordon and a very young Spike Jonze, nonetheless) launched them to MTV-fame. By doing it themselves, the Deal sisters inadvertently positioned themselves as folk heroes to any woman in a band being eclipsed. With Last Splash, they not only moved out from the shadows, they totally changed orbit.”
