In partnership with Legacy Recordings, the Prince estate plans to unveil a handful of 150-gram vinyl reissues from his sterling recorded repertoire this year and the next batch up includes Lovesexy (1988). Although not as critically and commercially acclaimed as its mid-80s precursors like Purple Rain (1984), Parade (1986) and Sign O’ The Times (1987) upon its initial arrival, his tenth studio album has more recently garnered a warmer reception among fans keen to reevaluate its place within his broader discography.

“Whilst it didn’t fare as well as the albums that came immediately before and after it, Lovesexy still contains moments of brilliance and is a powerful dose of positive funk that should be sought when needed,” Albumism’s Andy Healy explains in his feature tribute. “As it stands, Lovesexy feels more in line with being the worthy successor to Sign O’ The Times than The Black Album did and it deserves another moment to bask in the glory and power that is Prince at his most joyous and carefree.”

Featuring the official singles “Alphabet St.,” “Glam Slam” and “I Wish You Heaven,” Lovesexy topped the charts in multiple countries including the UK, while peaking at #11 on the US charts.
