Two-and-a-half months since her 2022 album Midnights triumphed twice at the 66th Annual GRAMMY Awards ceremony in the Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album categories, Taylor Swift has returned with her eleventh studio album. Marking her fifth studio album released in the past five years, The Tortured Poets Department features 16 songs in its standard form, including eight compositions co-written with her trusted collaborator Jack Antonoff, five co-written with The National’s Aaron Dessner and guest contributions by Florence + The Machine and Post Malone.
“This album, this new one, Tortured Poets, is an album that I think, more than any of my albums that I’ve ever made, I needed to make it,” Swift confided during her recent Eras Tour stop in Melbourne. “It was really a lifeline for me, just the things I was going through, and the things I was writing about, it kind of reminded me of why songwriting is something that actually gets me through my life. And I’ve never had an album where needed songwriting more than I’d needed it on Tortured Poets.”
Swift has also shared the expanded 31-track “Anthology” edition of the album and four different expanded physical-format variants of the album include one bonus track each in the form of “The Manuscript,” “The Bolter,” “The Albatross,” and “The Black Dog.”
