Kim Gordon has unveiled her second solo studio album The Collective, courtesy of the famed Matador Records label. Produced by Justin Raisen with select co-production by Sadpony, the Sonic Youth co-founder’s follow-up to 2019’s No Home Record is preceded by a trio of singles in the form of “BYE BYE,” “I’m A Man” and “Psychedelic Orgasm.”

“In Sonic Youth, I basically ended up singing on the most abstract pieces,” Gordon tells The New York Times, in comparing her solo recording process to that of her former band. “I’m kind of used to figuring out where to put vocals on beats. We would make those kinds of songs sitting together and jamming and arranging stuff, but ultimately it would be a piece of music that would pose a challenge. So I think that was good preparation for working this way.”

To support the album’s release, Gordon will play a handful of North American tour dates later this month and then again in June, followed by a series of UK and European gigs and festival performances.
