Editor’s Note: Our new, recurring “Albumism Recommends” series aims to shine a bright light on our favorite albums of the past, with an emphasis on the records that arguably never achieved the widespread or sustained attention they rightfully deserve. As you’ll see below, unlike our longer-form feature articles, we’ve intentionally kept the accompanying commentary to a minimum, so as to allow the great music to speak for itself.
We hope that you enjoy discovering (or rediscovering) these musical treasures and if you like what you hear, we encourage you to spread the good word far and wide so that others can experience these under-the-radar classics as well.

This 18-minute punk record—with sludgy, grunge-y ’90s influences—is a side-project collaboration between the acclaimed Chelsea Wolfe and drummer Jess Gowrie. (Wolfe and Gowrie formerly played together in the band Red Host, until there was a falling out, followed years later by reconciliation, and then Wolfe invited Gowrie to join her band for 2017’s Hiss Spun.) Mrs. Piss is markedly different from Wolfe’s usual fare (though I love Wolfe’s usual fare), and it rocks incredibly heavy and hard, particularly because Gowrie is a beast of a drummer. There’s talk of the two eventually putting out more albums under the Mrs. Piss moniker, but so far this is all we’ve got, and it hasn’t gotten nearly enough love.
