The powerful performance that illuminated Manhattan’s Nokia Theatre the evening of December 5, 2005 is vividly and inextricably lodged in my mind for eternity. This was Goldfrapp’s New York City—and lone North America—tour stop in support of the international release of their third studio affair, Supernature, and seldom have I experienced such a visceral, hedonistic exhibition and perfect coalescence of the aural and the visual.
Consummate class act Alison Goldfrapp sounded (and looked) divine, surrounded by a cadre of provocatively attired dancers replete with white, full-body latex suits and oversized werewolf and disco-ball textured horse heads, as documented by the good folks over at BrooklynVegan. Purposefully set at peak volume levels, the lushly crafted, euphoria-fueled album tracks “Fly Me Away,” “Number 1,” “Ooh La La,” and ‘Ride a White Horse” thundered out of the sound system, giving those fortunate enough to be in attendance no choice but to surrender to the group’s intoxicating allure.
Fast forward nearly 15 years, and we now have good reason—as if we needed any additional motivation—to revisit and indulge in the many virtues of Supernature, with the recently released vinyl reissue. In stores as of August 14th, the long-awaited re-release arrives on gorgeous, translucent green vinyl with gatefold sleeve and an exclusive print of the original artwork.
I’ve owned Supernature in digital and CD formats since its initial entree, but with an album this exquisite, I’d be remiss to not expand my collection by adding the vinyl iteration to complete the trifecta. Order your copy here, listen to the album and watch the official music videos below.
